Let me look that up for you.

I was at a Travel Stop in North Carolina, and a woman darted up to me and said, "Is this a dry county?"

I didn't have a clue, and I replied, "I don't have the slightest idea."

She looked me up and down, and dashed out of the store. She didn't even stop to ask the clerk at the counter.

I looked it up. The answer is no. Kenly, NC is in Johnston County. Johnston County is not dry.

I hope she found some booze. It seemed really important to her.

Sometimes it is EXTREMELY important. I've been there.

Holy cow, I can HEAR you reply, "I haven't the slightest idea." I can hear you!

My tone of voice was really one of confusion. I didn't think certain counties could decide to be dry and others couldn't.

And you can buy PBR at 7/11 in VA and GA so why couldn't you in NC?

If it was so important, she could have asked the clerk. Somebody who must answer that question on a regular basis. But she didn't.

PettyBureaucrat, do tell!

You know it's because she sensed that you're a librarian, right?

Perhaps that was it. At that moment I wasn't a good librarian, because I didn't refer her to someone who could answer her question.
